Description

RAF Hullavington was an RAF training station located in Wiltshire 4 miles (7 kms) north of Chippenham.

The station was opened in 1937 and used primarily for training. Units using the station during World War Two included 9 Flying Training School, 3 Flying Instructors School, Empire Central Flying School and 14 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit. Aircraft used included Ansons and Oxfords. A practice landing ground was nearby RAF Castle Combe. The station was also used by the Air Transport Auxiliary, parachute packing and a meteorological flight. Post war the station continued its training role until 1993 when the British Army took over the site.
