Thank you very much for your letter. I am so pleased to hear that your son is safe & that you have heard from hm. What a joy it must be to you to have received such good news. It certainly has cheered me up a bit to know that some members of the crew had been picked up, & that there may be a

possibility of my dear son being safe too. I pray earnestly that it may be so.
I havent had any news at all about him except the wire & letter from the Air Ministry to say he was reported missing – I am very grieved to hear from Mr Hyde that he had news that his son died of wounds, & was buried in Tripoli after he had heard the good news from you. It must be a very bitter disappointment to him & his wife – Poor dears, I feel so much for them both – It is indeed very hard to bear such
