Sir,
I am directed to refer to a letter from this Department dated the 10th May, 1944, and to advise you that information has now been received from a reliable source stating that your son, Flight Sergeant John Pittwood, Royal Air Force, has arrived in a neutral country.
In the interests of your son’s safety you are advised to treat this news as confidential and not to release it to the press, or mention it on the telephone. Correspondence should be addressed c/o Air Ministry (A.I.1.) 17, Monck Street, London, S.W.1. You are assured that letters will be forwarded and will reach their destination at the earliest possible moment.
Any further news will be immediately passed to you.
