Halifaxes and Lancasters caused large fires at oil plants at Sterkrade and Castrop-Rauxel and a new target, Aschaffenburg, rail town 25 miles south-east of Frankfurt, was also bombed in direct support of the advancing French Army.

Objectives in Hanover, Stuttgart, and Wurms were also attacked.

Lancasters which earlier hit the synthetic oil plant at Homburg, saw big fires and smoke rising to 10,000 feet. Fifteen bombers were lost.
