[underlined]FOR C.R.W.[/underlined]
Killed March 7th, 1944
[underlined]Aged 21[/underlined]

Death, the last drawbridge, was lowered,
Spanning the moat of his mind,
Guiding his feet as he faltered,
Flung from the claws of the wind.

Pain, the portcullis, was lifted
From the last cell of his brain,
After an instant of anguished
Receding, triumphant in vain.

Regal, he crossed the still threshold,
Severed from war’s dull alarm,
Smiles as he strode with the sunlight
Into the high courts of calm.
