INTRODUCTION
These notes and the copy documents within this file started life as an attempt
to gain insight into the wartime career of my late father Leslie Alfred Davies.
He was born in December 1922 and was 16 years of age when Hitler's forces
invaded Poland on 1st September 1939, leading to Britain and France declaring
war on Germany two days later. A little over five years later would find Leslie
embarking upon a tour of "OpS" as a navigator in Bomber Command, and one
of a Lancaster crew of seven airmen flying out of Skellingthorpe in Lincolnshire,
with 50 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. It was this period of my father's life
that I started to explore, and
