Retired hotel barman

A RETIRED hotel barman, Mr. John Ellams, of 115a Banks Road, West Kirby, has died, aged 84.
Mr. Ellams had lived in West Kirby for 17 years and previously lived in Birkenhead and Wallasey.
He was hotel barman at the Railway Inn, Meols, the Ship Inn, Hoylake, and the Coach and Horses, Moreton, and worked for the Birkenhead Brewery Company for 28 years.
He retired about 15 years ago. Before becoming a barman, Mr. Ellams served in the Merchant Navy and in the First World War his ship was torpedoed.
He was an air raid warden in Wallasey in the Second World War.
FREEMASON
Mr. Ellams was a Freemason, having been a member of the Toxteth Lodge for many years.
He was also a member of the Buffs in Hoylake.
His hobbies were photography and fishing.
Mr. and Mrs. Ellams had been married for 33 years and he is survived by his widow and two sons.
Cremation took place at Landican yesterday.
