Dear Mr & Mrs Madgett,

Mrs Wood & I have just read the news that Hedley is reported missing from an operational flight & I write to express our ernest [sic] hope that he is safe. We feel deeply for you in your anxiety for some definite news and sincerely trust that you will soon hear that he made a successful landing & is unhurt.
The suspense will be an ordeal to you both & our thoughts are with you.
With kind regards,
Yours very sincerely
