Description

RAF White Waltham was a training station and HQ of the Air Transport Auxiliary located 2 miles (4 kms) southwest of Maidenhead in Berkshire.

The site was first used by the de Havilland family in 1928 as the location for their flying school. At the start of the war it was being used by the RAF as 13 Elementary Flying Training School. In February 1940 the station became 1 Ferry Pool as well as the headquarters of the Air Transport Auxiliary which stayed until it was disbanded in September 1945. Post war the site was used by Fairy Aviation and Westland Aircraft but is now home to the West London Aero Club. It has retained grass runways for its entire history.
