SAINTBURY AIRMAN'S DEATH
[photograph]
Much sympathy is felt with Mr. and Mrs. H. Dyde, of Saintbury Hill Farm who received notification that their eldest son F/Sergt. Frederick William Dyde had been killed on active service.
F/Sergt. Dyde, who was 28 years of age, was educated at Ilmington and Willersey Schools. He joined the R.A.F. at the age of 18 years and in the early part of the war he was on the London balloon barrage [sic]. He had taken part in many operational flights over Germany and Italy.
At the funeral the service was conducted by the Rev. C.E. Heap, B.A., R.A.F.V.R., and the bearers were six fellow sergeants. The mourners present included Mr. H. Dyde (father), Mr. B. Dyde (brother) and Miss Chatterton, Notts (fiancee).
