4 To be responsible for all the apparatus, and to check this on taking over the watch.

[underlined] Keeping W/T Log [/underlined]

The operator enters in W/T Log all traffic on the frequency he is keeping watch, entering the time in intervals of not more than 5 minutes. A time should be entered for "R" each time it is received or Xmitted, [sic] ["C" in the case of a "C" message"]

The operator enters complete all messages made by other stations although not addressed to his own station.

Messages addressed for his own station to be written in detail [underlined] direct on Form 96 [/underlined], afterwards copying details into W/T Log; in code or cypher messages details as far as the GR No. and in P/L Messages, up to the AAA sign.

The completeness of an operation's W/T Log as compared with those of other stations on the same frequency, is the operators proof of an efficient look-out during his period of duty.

[underlined] Completion of Details on Form 96 [/underlined]

On an "IN" Message, he completes "SYSTEM IN", "TIME IN", & "READER".
On an "OUT" Message, he completes "SYSTEM OUT", "TIME OUT", "READER", & "SENDER".
The "readers" space consists of the first 3 letters of the station to whom the message

has been transmitted, eg, BOSCOMBE – "BOS" printed.

In the case of a message transmitted to more than one station, the time "R" is received should be entered for each station [even though the times are identical.]

Operator now hands the message to the traffic clerk.

[underlined] Traffic Clerks Duties [/underlined]

"Out" messages are dealt with as follows:-
1 Check that it's signed by the necessary authority.
2 Complete the "Time handed in" space.
3 Check as far as possible the legibility of the message.
4 Date stamp and give serial no.
5. Route the message in "CALL OUT" Space.
6 Cross out the P/L address in the "To" and "From" space.
7 Enter message in the message log.
8 Hand message to the Operator.

The Operator then adds series no., and after transmission he completes the necessary spaces on the form and hands it [underlined] back [/underlined] to the traffic clerk, who will complete his entries in the "IN" Message log. The message is now filed.
