[underlined] ORDERS FOR AIRCREW AT BARI AIRPORT. [/underlined]

1. Immediately after reporting to the Arrival Hut and booking in buses will be available to take you, your crew, and kit to the Camp where you will be allotted accomodation. [sic]

2. Meals will be provided in the respective Messes.

3. Aircrew are free to leave Camp, but must return by 23.59 hours. Notices will be placed in Officer's and Sergeant's Messes giving times of briefing and early meal.
It is the Captain's responsibility to ensure that his crew is available on the Camp for briefing which may be at a [underlined] very early hour. [/underlined].

4. Transport will be provided from the Camp to the briefing room. Captains, Navigators, and Wireless Operators are to attend. The remainder of the crew report to the aircraft where the Mid-upper gunner will receive the passengers and check them over from the manifests. They are to remain at the aircraft until the remainder of the crew arrive prior to emplaning.

On taking charge of the passengers the Mid-Upper gunner must prevent them wandering from the aircraft.

5. Mess Bills are payable in advance 20 Lire will be charged at the first meal. In the event of postponement of return a similar charge will be levied every 24 hours.

It must be appreciated that the Mess has no funds and is running on a strictly cash bases. [sic]

6. Water is in extremely short supply and is only turned on in the Bari area for two hours per day. Crews must not waste water by leaving taps or showers running.

[underlined] HINTS ON BARI. [/underlined]

At present there is no bus service into Bari but lifts are easy to come by.

There is an excellent R.A.F. bathing beach signposted 1 1/2 miles down the road to the left from the Camp entrance.

There is very little entertainment in Bari town but the Hotel Imperiale (for Officers) provides good meals and a bar until 22.00 hours. The Tudor Wine Lodge (run by N.A.A.F.I. – E.F.I.) provides similar attraction for N.C.O's.

Aircrew are strongly advised to avoid eating soft-skinned fruits purchased locally unless they can ensure that it has been thoroughly washed.
