THE WOMEN'S AUXILIARY AIR FORCE

The days have passed when women could only wait anxiously for the success of our forces. We can now all play a part in serving our country and earn as well as deserve the victory for which we are fighting. The Women's Auxiliary Air Force was formed to help the Royal Air Force. It is under the direct command of the R.A.F. Its object is to replace airmen by airwomen in certain ground appointments and trades. Day by day the magnificent deeds of the R.A.F. thrill our hearts. Will you join the W.A.A.F. and work with the R.A.F. to help to win the war?

SOME CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

On other pages you will find particulars of some of the many W.A.A.F. trades now open to you with few exceptions the age limit for all trades are [inserted] * [/inserted] 17 1/2 to 43, or 50 in the case of ex-service women.

The pay varies in different trades. During training it is 1/8 a day. The rates of pay for trained airwomen are given under the various trades. In each case food, clothing, accommodation and medical treatment are provided free. The minimum height for recruits is [deleted] 5' 0" except in the case of cooks who may be [/deleted] [inserted] * [/inserted] 4' 10". All airwomen must pass a medical examination. They must enrol for the duration of the war and be prepared to serve anywhere in the United Kingdom or overseas. A woman who has been making a substantial contribution to a depenent relative can claim a dependent’s allowance.

[inserted] * M.T. Driver 18 yrs & 5' 3" [/inserted]

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ENROL

You will be sent for a fornight to the W.A.A.F. Depot. During this time you will have lectures and drill with the other airwomen to make you feel at home in the Service. You will be given your kit. You will make friends with airwomen from all over the country.

If you are untrained you will then be instructed in the trade in which you are enrolled. When you are trained, you will be posted away to your job at an Aerodrome, Balloon Centre or Headquarters "Somewhere in Great Britain," proud to be in the W.A.A.F. helping the R.A.F.

You are enrolled to replace airmen on ground occupations, and anywhere where airmen are working, you may be needed. Do not fail them!
