AWARDS of the D.F.C. to WING-COMMANDER B.V. ROBINSON and the D.S.O. to WING-COMMANDER G.A. WALKER remind us once again of the frequency with which prominent Rugby footballers are distinguishing themselves in this war.
Walker, Yorkshire and Blackheath stand-off half, was in England’s XV against both Wales and Ireland in the season before the war
Robinson is the Bath three-quarter.
Outstanding among the Rugby men who are winning distinguished records with the R.A.F. is, of course, Acting Wing-Commander D. R. S. Bader, holder of D.S.O. and Bar and D.F.C. and Bar, who was a grand scrum half with Surrey in county matches and was on the verge of the England XV when a flying crash cost him both his legs. Now he is an England star in a far greater game.
The Beamish brothers, of Ireland fame – C. E., J. R., and G. R., holders of nearly forty international caps between them – have also matched their Rugby records with equally illustrious achievements in the air.
