Gloster Meteor.
Designed to meet a 1940 requirement first flying in March 1943. This was the first operational R.A.F. jet fighter & was powered by de Havilland H1 turbojets. Production models used Rolls-Royce Wellands. The Meteor was used largely against the German flying bombs (V 1), which it dealt with very successfully. Exported to Argentina, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt & the Netherlands.
