To all Ethiopian Officers and People:
Peace be to you.
The bearer of this letter is an Officer of the English Government and has come to help you and is a friend of Ethiopia. Treat him well; guard him from harm; give him food and drink, and help him to get to the nearest English soldiers, and you will be rewarded.

Words to be called out as soon as possible to establish identity –
Ingleez; Wadaj.
English; Friend.
It is advisable to approach unarmed if the situation permits.
