517 Squadron [entry point]
Description
517 Squadron was in Coastal Command from 1943 to 1946. Its main role was to fly meteorological flights over the Atlantic and western approaches to help weather forecasting, especially important for Bomber Command operational planning. It flew a mix of aircraft including Hampdens, B-17s, Hudsons and Halifaxes.
