550 Squadron was formed in November 1943 at RAF Grimsby as part of 1 Group. Equipped with Lancasters it moved to RAF North Killingholme in January 1944 where it stayed until the end of the war. In May 1945 the squadron participated in Operation Manna, dropping food to the Dutch.
