Opened in 1937 RAF Church Fenton remained in Fighter Command throughout World War Two. Squadrons based there used Hurricanes, Spitfires, Mosquitos, Blenheims, Beaufighters, Typhoons and P-51 Mustangs. Post war Meteors were also based there. The station closed in 2013 and the site is now Leeds East Airport.
