Heinkel He 51.
The HE 51 equipped the first fighter unit of the openly declared Luftwaffe from April 1935. The type was also used by the Spanish Nationalists as well as the Condor Legion in the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939. It soon became clear that the HE 51 was obsolescent as a fighter, & it was then used as a ground attack type & training, in the latter role surviving until 1943. About 560 were built. Powered by one BMW V1 12 cylinder liquid cooled engine.
