RAF Nuthampstead was located straddling the Hertfordshire–Essex border, 5 miles (8 kms) south-east of Royston.

The station opened in 1943 for use by the Eighth United States Army Air Force. From September 1943 to April 1944 it was used by P-38s and from then to the end of the war by B-17s.
