Description

RAF Kabrit was an RAF station located 20 miles (32 kms) north of Suez on the western bank of the Suez Canal in Egypt.

In World War Two it was used by the RAF in the North Africa theatre. Squadrons using the station at various times included 40, 104, 108, 148 and 162, some as part of 205 Group. The USAAF also used the station. Aircraft based at RAF Kabrit included Wellingtons, Blenheims, Baltimores, Bostons, B-25s, P-40s and Spitfires. Post-war the station was used by Lancasters, Mosquitos, Meteors, Vampires, Venoms and C-47s. In 1956 the station was transferred to the Egyptian Air Force, renamed Kibrit and it continues to be operational.
