Dear Mam & Dad,

As you will have noticed I am now a Flight sergeant which means I draw 16/- a day. It came out on orders on the tenth of January and is back dated to June 5th of last year so I have quite a bit of back pay to come.

Things are much the same and no one[deleted]s[/deleted] seems to know when we will be leaving here. I have not received any letter [sic] from you yet but I saw on the list yesterday that there is a parcel for me but I cannot collect it

until the post office opens on Monday. I have received our Cyril’s letter with the address in it so I shall be replying to it when I get the time.

Today, Sunday, is usually our day off but this morning we had a mock invasion and I was in charge of a section defending the grounds of the Grand with Sten guns and grenades; we had some good fun but both sides were almost wiped out.

Last night I went to the Odeon and saw Bing Crosby in “Dixie”; it’s a very good film so go and see it when it comes to Sheffield. Tonight I shall probably go to the cinema again as they are open on Sundays here and there is not much else to do.

Well I guess I had better close now as

I have got to polish my crowns before I go out.

Remember me to all

Your loving son

Lewis.

P.S. Let me know when Stan Eccleston is coming back here.
