Dear Mam and Dad, [inserted] AC/2 [/inserted]
Last week I had my photo taken so I thought I’d send you one. I think it looks more like my Dad than me, don’t you. When I had it took I told him I wanted a side view with my white belt showing but this is what I got.
On Friday a chap in our flight got his discharge. [deleted letter] He’d only been on a charge twice and on Friday we were doing drill (its lousy) and he wasn’t swinging his arms shoulder high and the officer asked him why and Biswell (thats his name) said he was tired because had had drill all the previous afternoon. So the officer told him the RAF had no use for tired pilots and recommended him for discharge to the Wing Commander and yesterday morning Biswell was sent back to London.
Well I’m getting on OK with my lessons, I can navigate now, and send and receive morse with a buzzer and a lamp, and all the other subjects are easy so I think I shall get through the exams alright so I am expecting some leave in about three weeks all being well.
I’ve written to John Smith three times are [sic] had one reply although he says he wrote twice to me while I was a [sic] London. I get letters from Hats & Fred regularly and sometimes one from
[page break]
Derrek Roper, or the circle; I havn’t [sic] had our Sidney’s yet.!
Well its Sunday morning and its raining cats and dogs so we’ve been excused church parade so I thought I write a few letters so I am going to write to Hats and Fred next.
I think thats all for now Mam, so remember me to all at 52 & 69, tell our Sidney to hurry up with that letter.
Your loving son
Lewis
