Dear Mam & Dad,

I arrived in Harrogate at 5 o’clock on Monday so I did do so bad considering I did not leave Sheffield until nearly 3.

As you see I am still in the Majestic and we look like staying here until we leave Harrogate.

All the guys are back from leave and most of us had a good time but a few said things had changed a lot in their part of the country.

On Monday night I stayed in but last night I went to a Civil Service Dance and had quite a good time

[page break]

I have been out tonight but there is nothing doing so I came in and I am now in bed. (Wednesday)

(Thursday.) I ran out of ink last night so I am continuing it today.

This morning we got paid and I received £6 so I am not doing bad. This morning I also lerned [sic] that unless we have compassionate grounds we cannot leave Harrogate not even on the week ends so I shall not see you until I get a 48.

This afternoon we had a kit parade & I managed to get a new uniform battle-dress and shirts and collars so I did not do so bad.

I guess thats all for now but I will write this week end.

Your loving son

Lewis.
