Madam,
With reference to the letter from this Department dated 5th November 1943, I am directed to inform you, with great regret, that no further information has come to hand regarding the fate of your son, 1388470 Sergeant R. W. L. Muir. In view of the time which has elapsed since he was reported missing, there can be practically no hope of his survival, and it is now proposed to take action to presume his death for official purposes.
I am accordingly to ask that you will be good enough formally to confirm that you have received no further evidence or news regarding him.
