I am directed to refer to the letter dated 30th July 1943 notifying you that your son, Sergeant Reginald William Lingfield Muir, Royal Air Force, was reported missing on the night of 8/9th July 1943 and to inform you that the following information has been received through the Internation Red Cross Committee.
“9/7 Lancaster six dead. Sergeant Hannel Sergeant Johnson Sergeant Barrett and three unknown.”

As there are seven members in this crew It is not possible on this information to identify the unknown but as your son is still unaccounted for and the above were members of his crew it is considered that you would wish to be notified of this report.
I am to add an expression of the Department’s sympathy with you in your anxiety and to assure you that you will be notified of any further information received.
