Sunday 1st August 1943.

Dear Lewis,

I am just dropping a few lines to let you have the “gen” & to see why you have not written since you went back after your leave. Last week we had our final ground school exams for which we have had all the results except one, airmanship, I have [deleted word] passed them all & I should have passed airmanship, last week some of us myself included had our 50 hr & instrument checks, I passed both O.K & now I just have my [deleted] 3/2 [/deleted] leg solo cross country (about 2 1/2 hrs,) and about 3/4 hrs instrument to do & then I have finished. My total is now 70 – 10.

I do not know if we are getting leave or not but if we do we are thinking of trying to go to America, maybe, although we might go straight to S.F.T.S at the end of the week, as yet we do not know if we are to go to twins or singles, although I shall state twins I have acquired quite a fondness for aerobatics & since I had my 50 check my instructor has sent me up to do what I liked, within reason, & I have had a damn good time. I am at present spending my fifth 48 hrs pass, five in 7 weeks, not too bad & this morning I have spent in catching up on my mail, or very nearly catching up. As yet I have not heard from Stan, have you heard again?

I shall have to close now as dinner is ready, do not forget to let me know when you are going home, write soon
