Dear Mam & Dad,

I got your letter on Monday telling me about my [deleted] W [/deleted] Uncle Charie coming. I saw him come and rushed down stairs but he'd gone; anyway I got the watch and medal.

We've been promised a few days leave at the end of this course which is a fortnight or a three week this weekend and after that [deleted] I [/deleted] if I pass all the exams, I get my L.A.C. [drawing of badge] 5/- a day and we can then make an allowance. We got paid last Friday – 30/- but Ive got to save some thing in case we don't get paid before leave. I reckon the Air Force owes me a fortune but the cpl says we get all our dues settled at the end of each quarter.

We've got our drill exam next week and Flt Sgt. intends us passig (Ive got hooves like a horse now). and on the 16th Sept. I have my interview with the Wing Commander the CO to see if I’m any good for a commission etc. I'll be glad when its through. We are doing navigation now, and is it complicated, but its very interesting. Well I think thats all now Mam I'm sorry I couldn’t write sooner. Give my love to all

Your loving son

Lewis.
