Dear Mam & Dad,

I got your letter, I think it was last Wednesday but I havn’t [sic] had time to reply before.

On Friday about 20 of our flight had to go and see the OC (not the CO, we saw him Tuesday) and he told us to expect to leave this weekend, 26 Sept, but it would only be 48 hrs as we are taking our exams this week and if we pass we are being posted sometime the following week.

I shall catch the 1 oclock train from Scarborough & I shall get to Sheffield about 4 oclock to 5 oclock. We may have to bring full kit so could you get one of the lads to meet me. If you can’t get any one, & I don’t suppose you can on a Friday I’ll get up [underlined] myself [/underlined]. I expect it will be the LMS station.

Last Tuesday we went before the C.O. & he asked me how I liked it [inserted] here, [/inserted] what the food was like, had I any brothers??? and a lot more rot, anyway I think I got on alright because he told me I’d got 98 out of 100 for my maths.

Well we’ve got exams next week so I’ve got a lot of swatting to do so I’ll close now.

See you on Friday all being well

Your loving son

E.L.E.

P.S. When I get back from leave I’ll get my L.A.C. [deleted word]

I’ve written & told Fred.
