Dear Mrs Ellis and Family,
Well I suppose you thought I had forgotten you but as you can see I haven’t. I have been going to write for some time now but have kept putting it off. However now I am over this side the only way to pass time on is writing so I have found time. I suppose you know that I was home for 48 hours a few weeks ago. I was going to come and see you but the time just flew. I saw [indecipherable word] and asked him to tell you. Well I hope you are all getting on O.K. When I was home Irene was ill. I hope she has recovered by now. I haven’t heard from Lewis for months so I wonder if you could give him my address and ask him to write.
I am getting on OK over here in Normandy. It is a bit desolate where we are and there is nothing to do in the evenings. I am hoping to meet some of the lads out here but so far I have had no luck. Well I think that’s all, so cheerio for now,
