Dear Mrs Ellis,

Just a few lines to thank you for your card. My mother posted it on to me last week. I’m afraid I wasn’t as lucky as your Lewis as I could get home. I spent my birthday having inoculation and doing a guard. However I made up for that last Thursday night when I went out and got soaked for the first time in my life. Believe me I didn’t think it was worth it on Friday morning.

I don’t know what has happened to your Lewis but I

haven’t heard from him for months, Could you please write and ask him to drop me a line.

As you can see from my address I have left my London home. I have been back here three weeks now. I thought I would have been home by now but I’ve given up the thought of leave for a while. If I do get it it [sic] will be a pleasant surprise.

Well I think that’s all for just now, Remember me to everyone over there.

Cheerio for now

Fred
