311 Squadron was the only Czechoslovakian squadron in Bomber Command. It was formed at RAF Honington in July 1940 from Czech Air Force crew who had escaped to the United Kingdom. It was part of 3 Group and equipped with Wellingtons. In September 1940 it moved to the nearby satellite station of RAF East Wretham from where it operated until April 1942. The squadron then transferred to Coastal Command for the rest of the war, converting to B-24s in June 1943.
