Opened in December 1940 RCAF Moncton was used as a training station as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. It was home to 8 Service Flying Training School using Ansons for multi-engine training. The school moved to Saskatchewan in January 1944. The RCAF Moncton site is now the Greater Moncton Romeo LeBlanc International Airport. The town of Moncton was also the location for the non-airfield RCAF Station Moncton. This was the home for 31 (RAF) Personnel Depot. It was a holding station for aircrew arriving in Canada before onward postings to other training stations in Canada or the USA. On completion of their training aircrew also travelled back to the UK via Moncton.
