RAF Morpeth (also known as Tranwell) was located in Tyne and Wear, 12 miles (19 kms) north-west of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The station opened in April 1942 and until December 1944 was home to 4 Air Gunnery School equipped initially with Lysanders, Martinets, Bothas and later Ansons. Late in the war the station was used by a Spitfire Operational Training Unit.
