2 Initial Training Wing (ITW) was formed at RAF Paignton in the first half of 1940 but redesignated 4 ITW in July 1940.  Initial Training Wings were where aircrew and other RAF recruits would spend 8-12 weeks receiving basic service training. 4 ITW specialised in training pilots, navigators and air gunners.
