RAF Bassingbourn was a Bomber Command training station located in Cambridgeshire 3 miles (5 kms) north of Royston.

The station opened in March 1938 and by the start of the war was occupied by 215 Squadron in a training role with Wellingtons. In April 1940 215 Squadron became 11 Operational Training Unit (OTU). From December 1941 to February 1942 hard runways were constructed before 11 OTU returned and participated in the bombing of Cologne in May 1942. In October 1942 the station was transferred to the United States Army Air Force for the remainder of the war.
