ST. LEU D’ESSERENT
VERY CLEAR AND LARGE SCALE PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW A HEAVY CONCENTRATION
OF CRATERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RIVER OSIE.
THERE HAS BEEN A LARGE AREA OF SUBSIDENCE IN THE EARTH JUST S.W.
OF THE SOUTHERN ENTRANCE TO THE CAVES. THIS AREA IS ABOUT 160 YDS
X 120 YDS AND HAS PROBABLY BEEN CAUSED BY A DIRECT HIT FROM
A 1200 LB BOMB. THE ROAD AND RAILWAY TO THE EAST OF THE TUNNEL
ENTRANCE HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY SEVERED BY CRATERS OVER A DISTANCE
OF 300 TO 400 YDS. THE LANDING QUAY ON THE WEST BANK OF THE OISE
DUE EAST OF THE SOUTHERN TUNNEL ENTRANCE HAS BEEN
COMPLETELY OBLITERATED BY DIRECT HITS. ON THE EAST BANK THE
CONCENTRATION OF CRATERS HAS BEEN VERY HEAVY INDEED. LARGE GANGS OF
PIOPLE [sic] ARE WORKING CLEARANCE OF ROAD AND RAILWAYS
VILLERS BOCAGE
THE WHOLE AREA IS A MASS OF CRATERS. ALL THE AREAS ARE STILL BLOCKED.
