Sir,
I am directed to inform you, with deep regret, that in view of the time which has elapsed since your son Flying Officer E.L. Ellis, was reported missing and the absence of evidence of his survival, it must be concluded that he has lost his life.
In these circumstances, and assuming that you have no information which would indicate that he is alive, his death has now been presumed, for official purposes, to have occurred on 23rd February, 1945.
In conveying this information, I am to express to you the sympathy of the Air Ministry in the anxiety you have suffered, and in your bereavement.
