Dear Mr Pickford:-

All ranks join me in offering the deepest sympathy to you in your great loss. His squadron commander, who was lost with him during an engagement which accounted for several valuable targets, had a very high opinion of your son, and the service has lost a very valuable wireless-operator air gunner. This trade, as you know, calls for great skill in two departments, apart from personal courage, and your son was gifted with all.

If any further information comes to my knowledge I will let you know at once.

Yours sincerely,

C. H Cahill G. Capt.
