16 Apr 1944: Hello Folks:
It’s Sunday evening and time for my note to you again. Is a grand sun at present (6:30) but has been rather misty all day so we have been unable to fly. Have had lots of flying this week with little time off but I don’t mind it too much.
Everything is very lovely and green over here with flowers and hedges in full bloom. Received a letter from you this week on Wednesday I believe. They take about 12 days to reach me. Glad to hear that the canning is finished up for another year and that the chickens are doing quite well. Earl Osborn should be a big help in the orchard. I believe a good pruning would make a big difference to it. Hope you are able to get rid of your potatoes at a decent price. They seem to have lots of them in this country. They grow some wonderful crops over here, use a lot of commercial fertilizer, much more than our home. They are far behind with machinery, few tractors, do a lot of plowing [with] two big Clyde horses in tandem (one ahead of the other).
By this time Gwen and Grant will know the results of their exams. Hope they are up to your expectations. Tell Gwen I would be very pleased to receive a photo of her in her next [illegible]. I am going to have a shot taken sometime soon. I have no mustache at present. Will send you a snap of my crew when I can also.
I’m sorry to hear of the barn fire at Osbournes. It must be quite serious.
Where is Ewart Bragg now? Is he still in the army.
The Werry family must be increasing in leaps and bounds. You won't be Grandma and Grandpa for awhile yet. It would sure sound funny to me.
I haven't seen Howard Wight. I may look him up in a month or so. I have a week or so leave coming at that time. I understand George Werry [Ed. 1st cousin] is over by now.
I am not receiving the Statesman as yet. I don't know what the reason can be because my mail is coming quite regular. I received 5 letters this week and a lighter jacket from Dora.
On my way over I was not sick. They gave me quite an important job to do with the guns and I rather enjoyed the trip. I will tell you about it sometime.
I understand Arch is home, would like to be with him. War news is very good at present. Should soon fold up. Will say so long for now. Keep writing.
Love Glenn
