Pilots flying log book for J S Ross, covering the period from 19 July 1941 to 23 December 1942. Detailing his flying training and instructor duties. He was stationed at RAF Peterborough, RAF Little Rissington, RAF Upavon, RAF Church Lawford, RAF Kirmington, RAF Leconfield (aerial photo included), and RAF Tatenhill. Aircraft flown in were Tiger Moth, Oxford, and Tutor. During his flying training he was listed as 2nd Lieutenant of The Royal Scots. <br /><br />This item was sent to the IBCC Digital Archive already in digital form. Three aerial photographs of Tholthorpe. Dates were supplied with the collection.
Photo 1 is an oblique taken in the 1970s. Information supplied with the collection states 'The disused Tholthorpe airfield in the 1970s looking towards the west. The later Watch Office can be just made out in the distance and one of the two remaining "T-Type" hangars to the right of the photograph.'
Photo 2 is an undated early vertical aerial photograph with a camouflaged central landing trip. Dispersal pans are clearly visible.
Photo 3 is a vertical aerial photograph showing hard runways and dated late 1943. Information supplied with the collection states 'RAF Tholthorpe in late 1943, after the Canadians had taken over the airfield. Halifaxes can be clearly seen on the dispersals. Bomb dump to the lower right of the photo'.
