Interspersed are details of operations carried out by Herbert Adam's crew on 467 Squadron between 10 September 1944 and 16 January 1945 which include many extracts from his diary describing operations and daily activities. A bomber pilot’s journey through WWII
Biography of Squadron Leader David James Baikie Wilson, DSO, DFC and Bar (1917 - 1947). He flew operations as a pilot with 214, 196 and 617 Squadrons before becoming Head of Aerodynamic Development and Testing, and Test-Pilot at A V Roe & Co Ltd. He was killed 23 August 1947 in the Avro Tudor crash.

Attack on constructional works Mimoyecques, narrative
Reports that this was the fourth constructional works target for the squadron. One P-51, one Mosquito and 17 Lancasters were detailed. States it was another difficult target and describes marking efforts. Reports difficultly in finding aiming point but one bomb was a direct hit on the main building. Three aircraft returned with bombs as unable to identify aiming point and one was hit by anti-aircraft fire and had to jettison his bomb.

Attack on Creil area dumps, 5/5 July 1944. narrative
Notes that despite allied bombing, V-1 campaign against London and South East continues. Notes decision to attack V-1 storage sites. 617 Squadron were to join 5 Group attack and use using 12,000 bombs to collapse roof of caves in which bombs were stocked. Describes marking using P-51 and Mosquito and attack using 11 Lancasters. Records initial results good then target indicator extinguished by direct hit resulting in lack of aiming point, Reports radio failure in P-51 flown by Wing Commandeer Cheshire and Mosquito. Eight aircraft bombed with remainder returning with weapons.

Attack on e-boats, Boulonge - narrative
Describes planned timing to attack at the same time as the main force. Reports that weather was unfavourable. After initially cancelling the operation leader checked out weather at low level but decided low visibility and target defences precluded attack. Some aircraft had already bombed but 11 aircraft brought bombs back to base.

Target photograph of Bielefeld Viaduct. One or more bomb explosions can be seen directly around the viaduct. Bomb craters all over the image. The note above the image outlines operations by 617 Squadron on 6, 14, 22 February and 13,14 March 1945 when viaduct was finally destroyed. Explanation of photograph taken by Flying Officer Gill's aircraft on 22 February 1945 shows impact of bombs dropped on that raid, two pieces destroyed but total destruction not until 14 March 1945.

Bill Burnett’s Flight Engineer’s Log Book
Bill Burnett’s Flying Log Book as Flight Engineer from 22 May 1944 to 20 April 1946. Initially with 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit before transferring to 5 Lancaster Finishing School and then 617 Squadron for operational duties in Europe. In January 1946 posted with 617 Squadron to RAF Digri, India with South East Asia Expeditionary Force.
Served at RAF Swinderby, RAF Syerston, RAF Woodhall Spa, RAF Waddington. Aircraft flown were Stirling, Lancaster I, Lancaster III, Lancaster VII.
Flew 25 day and 2 night operations with 617 Squadron to Brest, Westkapelle, Tromso (Tirpitz), Urft Dam, Ijmuiden, Politz, Rotterdam, Oslo Fjord, Bergen, Pootershaven, Bielefeld Viaduct, Nienburg Viaduct, Arnsberg Viaduct, Bremen, Farge, Hamburg, Swinemünde, Berchtesgaden. He also flew two Cook’s Tours and six Operation Dodge flights. His pilot on operations was Flight Lieutenant Goodman.
Includes a hand written note Dam Buster mines dropped in North Sea 31 March 1945.

Describes final operation where Me 262s encountered but his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed when unreleased weapons exploded, All crew killed. Lists crew.

Constructional works Watten - narrative
Explains that the enemy had brought much vaunted secret weapons into action including V2 missile. Five launching platforms were known to exits and 617 as a precision bombing squadron to destroy these sites. First target allotted was at Watten to the north of St Omer. Goes on to describe poor Pathfinder marking and marking attempts by Wing Commander Cheshire and Squadron Leader Shannon. Lancasters with Tallboys were able to make good bomb runs and several burst were seen in the vicinity of the aiming point. Mentions anti-aircraft fire defences.
