RAF bomb-aimers were dead on target when Lancasters and Halifaxes gave Cologne its heaviest battering of the war in daylight last Saturday. Some were told to smash the big suspension bridge over the Rhine, and - as the picture shows – they did it. The great steel span has crashed into the river where it will have to be blown to pieces to clear a way for the large-scale traffic along the Rhine.

At approximately 1505, the Anson was seen diving, with both engines running at full power, from 4,000 feet and failing to recover before hitting the ground roughly a mile E of Arbroath airfield, Angus. An examination of the wreckage revealed that most of the fabric had peeled away from the starboard wing. All rest in cemeteries scattered across the United Kingdom and it seems likely that the funeral for W/O Farlam of Neutral Bay in New South Wales was arranged by relatives as he is buried in Surrey at Cheam (St. Dunstan) Churchyard, Sutton and Cheam.

T/o 1525 Honeybourne for a navigation exercise involving the crew, which was made up of a screened pilot and wireless operator, four trainees and two passengers, in overwater flying. At 1955, the bomber returned to base and was seen, while on the cross-wind leg, to lower the flaps. As it did so, so the nose appeared to rise quite sharply. Immediately, the flaps were retracted and the Whitley continued with its approach but as it turned finals, and the flaps were once again lowered, the nose pitched up and the aircraft stalled, plunging to the ground on the boundary of the airfield, where it burst into flames. Those who died rest in various cemeteries across the United Kingdom. This was the first major accident involving an aircraft from the unit since its formation in mid-March 1942.

Dear Wing Commdr Donaldson,
I would like to thank you & S/Ldr Kendrick for your good wishes on my award, which came as a complete surprise to me, in fact until I received your letter I has no idea of it, I feel very happy and pleased on getting it.
I am on the last few days of a 2 week Instructors course at Little Horwood, & last week we were fortunate enough to be at home on our day off, when Japan gave in, so I was able to celebrate the end of the war at home. How this will affect the O.T.U. courses I can't say, but obviously we can't keep taking new courses in.
Since leaving the squadron I found it hard to settle down, & I am sorry to hear that 192 is now close to dissolution, I shall always remember my stay there with you.
I would like to offer you my congratulations on your Bar to the D.S.O. I was very glad to [sic] it announced in the Aeroplane last week.
Please remember me to
