Back in the UK he took part in a formation fly past over Banbury. In February 1948 his duties are again described as “screening’ in the Halifax but now with ‘Flying Wing’ at Fairford. Geoffrey remained in the Royal Air Force and served in Palestine. He took part in the Berlin Airlift, transporting coal to Berlin. Transferred to RAF Hemswell with 97 Squadron.

Regards this question of leave, I hope you are saving up a few pounds in order to carry both of us over those 12 days, yes and I mean both of us, as at the present moment I am £2 in debt and practically no hope of being able to pay it back for at least 3 weeks. You see I happen to be the only one of a fine old gang left, and I am called upon to go out on the booze every

time one of the boys come home, and for the past 5 weeks one or the other has been here, they have all gone, Stan Samaworth, Albert Price, Harry Cooke, and Maurice Gaisford etc. and I am getting completely cheesed hanging around Oxford by myself, so hurry up and get some leave and we'll proceed to paint the Town red, probably with all your recent practice, you are getting somewhere near my drinking capacity.

By the way, if you bring Pamela here, you had better look out, I'm a pretty smart guy.

Dear Vic,
I was unable to ring you up as I promised when I saw you last because while I was at home for the week-end I caught a cold and didn't return till the Thursday.
When I did ring up you were on leave so I was unable to fix up anything. Can you drop me a line when it is convenient
[page break]
for you to meet me? any time after Monday week will do, as I am off to Driffield on a Bat-course on Saturday.
Hope you are keeping out of trouble and that we can arrange an evening together before long.
Best of luck,
