Eight items. An oral history interview with Flight Sergeant Langford William Green (1923 - 2022, 2236292 Royal Air Force), his logbook, service documents and photographs. After training, Langford Green served as an air gunner with 218 Squadron at RAF Chedburgh. He flew 18 operations and several Operation Manna supply drops to Dutch civilians.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Langford Green and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.
In accordance with the conditions stipulated by the donor, these items are available only at the International Bomber Command Centre / University of Lincoln.

An account of the resource
Royal Air Force navigators, air bombers, air gunners and flight engineers flying log book for L W Green, air gunner, covering the period from 16 June 1944 to 8 July 1945. Detailing training, scores on gunnery course, and operations flown and post war flying. He was stationed at RAF Bishops Court, RAF Peplow, RAF Sandtoft, RAF Ingham and RAF Chedburgh. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Wellington, Halifax and Lancaster. He flew 18 operations with 218 Squadron, 11 Daylight and 7 Night. 3 Operation Manna to The Hague and Rotterdam and 6 Operation Exodus to Juvincourt. Targets were, Monchengladbach, Weisbaden, Dortmund, Wanne-Eickel, Dresden, Chemnitz, Gelsenkirchen, Datteln, Hallendorf, Wurzburg and Kiel.
In accordance with the conditions stipulated by the donor, this item is available only at the University of Lincoln.

Collection covers the wartime service of Leading Aircraftsman George Joseph Bubb (b. 1911, 1477909 Royal Air Force), an instrument fitter on 44 Squadron. the collection contains notebooks from training courses, a service bible and 1946 diary as well as the contents of a scrapbook which include personal documents and photographs of people and bombing operations.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Dave Pilsworth and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

In the centre slightly right is the main station building which is damaged. Towards the bottom the railway yards are severely damaged with track and rolling stock destroyed. At the bottom right a small built up area with multistory buildings and roads. Some buildings damaged. Oblique aerial photograph of Duren. A city landscape of largely destroyed buildings. A principle road runs from bottom left diagonally to top right. Another curved road runs from bottom left to the right side where it joins a further road running right to left. Along these roads are a small number of partially destroyed buildings, amongst large areas of rubble with interspersed trees. Beyond and to the left of the diagonal road a large area of rubble with just a few standing structures. The river Roer runs left to right near the top of the photograph with largely open farm land beyond. Captioned 'Germany Duren'.

Description

Oblique aerial photograph of the Hohenzollern bridge over the Rhine at Cologne. The river Rhine runs from left diagonally to the right, On the far bank a narrow parallel canal, the Rheinauhafen, beyond which is a city landscape of multistory buildings, many of the buildings seen are are damaged and areas completely destroyed. There are four factory chimneys towards the left side. The tower known as Malakoffturm is on the opposite bank close to the entrance to the Rheinauhafen. In the foreground is a temporary road bridge with a few vehicles going in both directions. In front of this is a destroyed bridge with just the remains of two piers and supports with small sections of roadway. Small parts of the destroyed bridge are just visible on top of the water, Captioned 'Germany Cologne ex-Hoenzollern [sic] Bridge'.

Aerial inclined photograph of the city of Cologne looking north. The river Rhine goes from left to right with one large meander. Three bridges cross the river as to turns back to the right. The furthest bridge is destroyed with the right hand two thirds of the deck in the river. The nearest bridge is an intact narrow temporary bridge. Just beyond this are two piers and towers of a destroyed bridge with the complete roadway missing. To the left of the furthest bridge is Cologne Cathedral. On on the farther bank another church/tower. The city landscape consists of many multistory buildings with a tree lined boulevard running left to right a third of the way up.
