Includes training, descriptions of notable operations and incidents, postings between tours to headquarters and training units, pathfinder techniques, radio countermeasures and award of two Distinguished Service Orders and a Distinguished Flying Cross.

Aircraft flown in were, Tiger Moth, Stearman, Anson, Oxford, Wellington, Stirling and C-47. He flew a total of 17 night operations with 149 squadron. Targets were, Laon, Kiel, Brest, Friesland, Ile de Rea, St Nazaire and Lens. Five of these were special operations. His pilots for his first 'second dickie' operations were Pilot Officer Coates and Flight Lieutenant Wooley.

Pilots flying log book for D E Owen, flight engineer, covering the period from 15 October 1942 to 5 August 1943. Detailing his flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Stradishall, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Scampton. Aircraft flown in were, Stirling and Lancaster. He flew 24 night operation with 149 squadron and one operation with 617 squadron until crashing on Salisbury plain during low level excercise and being admitted to hospital. During his time with 617 Sqn he had one flight piloted by Guy Gibson (27.7.43, low level cross-country). Targets were, St Jean de Luz, Stuttgart, Turin, Bordeaux, Duisburg, Lorient, Hamburg, Cologne, Nurenburg, Munich, Mannheim, Rostock, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Le Creusot and Milan. Also include with the log book is his form 1250 identity card. <span>His pilots on operations were</span><span> </span>Flight Lieutenant Kellaway DSO and Wing Commander Harrison.

Flying Officer A.F. Thomas’ RAF Navigator’s, Air Bomber’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book, from 4th November 1943 to 26th March 1947, detailing his training, operations, instructional and post-war duties as a flight engineer. Also contains several photographs of aircraft and occasional notes. He was stationed at RAF Woolfox Lodge (1665 and 1651 Conversion Unit), RAF Tuddenham (90 and 149 Squadron), RAF Wratting Common (1651 Conversion Unit), RAF Methwold (149 Squadron), RAF Feltwell and RAF Stradishall (149 Squadron). Aircraft in which flown: Stirling Mk I, Stirling Mk III, Lancaster Mk I, Lancaster Mk III and Lancaster Mk I (FE). He flew a total of 35 operations with 90 and 149 squadrons (8 day, 27 night). Targets in Belgium, France and Germany were: Abbeville, Amiens, Cherbourg, Courtrai, Dortmund, Essen, Frisians (mining), Gelsenkirchen, Gironde, Hattingen, Heligoland, Kamen, Kattegat, Kiel Bay, Kiel, Laon, Merseburg, Osterfeld, Potsdam and Regensburg. Several operations are listed as ‘Special’ or with unnamed targets. He took part in Operations Manna, Exodus and Dodge as well as going on Cook's Tours. His pilots on operations were Warrant Officer Poynton DFC and Flight Lieutenant Cowing.

Roy Jackson’s air gunner’s flying log book covering the period from 4 January 1943 to 22 June 1943. Detailing his flying training and operations flown as air gunner. He was stationed at RAF Morpeth (4 AGS), RAF Chipping Warden (12 OTU), RAF Marham (1483 Bomber [Gunnery] Flight), RAF Waterbeach (1651 HCU) and RAF Lakenheath (149 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Botha, Wellington and Stirling. Targets were not specified. He flew one leaflet drop with 12 OTU and three minelaying and two night operations with 149 Squadron. Failed to return 22 June 1943, ‘death presumed’. His pilot on operations was Sergeant Nicholson.

Royal Air Force observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book
R Francis’s Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book detailing operations and training flown as Air Gunner covering the period 5 October 1939 to 23 May 1943. He was stationed at RAF West Freugh (4 AOS), RAF Mildenhall (149 Squadron), RAF Warmwell (CGS) and RAF Manby (1 AAS). Aircraft flown in were Heyford, Welllngton, Hampden and Blenheim. He flew 29 night operations and one day operation (total 30) with 149 Squadron. His pilots on operations were Wing Commander Kellett, Squadron Leader Dabinett, Squadron Leader Collett, Squadron Leader Kerr and Pilot officer Davis. Targets were not specified.

Letter to David's younger brother Norman. Hank thanks him for the opportunity to see a copy of Norman's write up of David's Royal Air Force career and confirms that it is factually correct. Hank reviews his association with David and aspects of his own career. He mentions crossing David's path in his subsequent career as an Industrial Tribunal Chairman in 1978. Extract from Harry Stannus' (bomb aimer) memoir
Account of operation to mine Brest harbour entrance, William Holmes was pilot and captain of aircraft. Used acoustic mines, describes briefing by naval officer, trip out, being engaged by heavy anti aircraft fire and finally dropping mines after several runs. Describes near mid air collision with an Me 109 on return flight. Notes that pilot Bill Holmes was awarded Distinguished Flying Cross for this operation.

Interview with Patrick Fergus Rowland
Patrick Rowland volunteered for the RAF in Belfast. He trained as a mechanic. He was posted with 149 Squadron. He volunteered for overseas posting because his brother was a prisoner in the Far East. He did not know at the time that his brother had already died in the prison camp. Patrick was posted to RAF Shaibah and Shallufa.
