[underlined] Attention: Chief Postals Officer [/underlined]
[underlined] McCRON, Samuel Lorne Wilfred, Sgt., R.191097, Killed overseas Nov. 13 [/underlined]
Next-of-kin: Mrs. S.L.W. McCron, 1339 Crawford Ave., Fort William, Ont. (Wife)
1. The wife of the above noted deceased airman has written to us making inquiry with regard to her correspondence to her husband.
2. The text of her letter follows and it would appear to be of such a nature that we trust some investigation will be made and a satisfactory reply forwarded to her.
"I got your letter today and want to thank you. Do you think it's possible to find out how the death of my husband happened. I can't understand how it happened and I have had no word from Ottawa except the telegram. I would like to know just how my husband was killed, was it an accident? Then perhaps you can also tell me why my husband did not receive my mail or parcels for eight weeks. The other boys got theirs and my husband received letters from other friends but mine were well taken care of so that my husband never received them, why? I'll never know, could you perhaps tell me. I wrote to him [underlined] every [/underlined] day and yet he never received them. Do you suppose someone was destroying them? But for what reason? I'd be grateful if you could find out and let me know. Nothing matters now that my husband is gone but the least I could do for him is find out (if I can) what was holding up my letters to him. Hoping to hear from you soon and thank you. Yours truly, Mrs. Lorne McCron"

Dear Sir
I would like to have all my husband’s personal belonging, including his clothing if possible. If it’s impossible to have his clothing (as I have learned that the smallest parcel can be sent) but if I cannot have his clothing I would more than ever want the smallest things he left behind.
Thank you. I remain

Royal Air Force Station,
Ossington,
Nr. Newark,
Notts.
5th December 1944.
OSS/549/126/4/P.1.
Dear Mrs. McCron,
It is with great sorrow that I write to confirm the sad news of the death of your husband, Sergeant McCron S.L.W. in a flying accident at 11.30 hours on the morning of November 30th 1944.
The aircraft was engaged on a training flight, when, for some reason which has not been explained, it suddenly crashed and became a total wreck, all of the crew being killed instantly. The accident took place at Sutton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, which is about three miles from this station, and the bodies were brought back here to await burial.
Owing to the time it takes to communicate with Canada, I was unable to consult you with regard to the funeral, and I do hope that the arrangements I made were in accordance with what you would have desired.
The funerals took place at Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey at 12 o'clock on December 4th, 1944. Full service honours were accorded. Bearers were sent by Royal Air Force Station, Farnborough, and Royal Canadian Air Force Headquarters, London, provided a firing party and trumpeter. The Presbyterian services were conducted by Squadron Leader A. Linton, from R.C.A.F. Headquarters, London, and I sent representatives from among the trainees who were friends of the crew. Wreaths were sent from the Officer Commanding and Officers, Senior N.C.Os. and airmen of this unit.
Mrs. Lorne McCron,
1339 Crawford Avenue,
West Fort William,
Ontario.

The care of the graves is in the hands of [missing word] Imperial War Graves Commission, who will erect a temporary wooden cross pending the provision of a permanent memorial by them.
Your husband's effects have been gathered together and are being sent to the Royal Air Force Depository, from where they will be forwarded to the Administrator of Estates, Ottawa, who will in due course write to you with regard to this matter.
I send you my most sincere sympathy in your great sorrow. Your husband was keen and hardworking, and in his death, this unit and his country have sustained a real loss.
There is very little I can say to you in consolation, but I hope you will always remember with pride that your husband gave his life in the cause of freedom, fighting for all he held dear.
If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to write.
Yours sincerely,
