Dear Mr. Blandford.
It is with deep regret I write you at this time. on the 26 January I received word from the Air Ministry (I here quot [sic] their telegram).
According to information received through the International Red Cross Committee your husband Sgt. R. Stott (D.F.M.) is [indecipherable word] to have lost his life as the result of Air Operations on 26/11/43.
It came as a sudden shock but I still can’t believe it. I still do think he is still at liberty. It is my only hope now. If you have received similar news I pray to God to give you strength to carry on at this time.
Yours Very Sincerely
Agnes E. Stott.

Dear Mr. Blandford,
Im [sic] thanking you for your letter received here 25/4/44 and I am more than delighted that your prayers have been answered and your son returned to you. Two days later I received word that my husband was killed on the 26th Nov. 1943 and three days later buried in grave No.355 in the cemetery of St. Frond, Belgium.
Four other members of the crew are buried in neighbouring graves.
This news reached me unawares as I always believed my husband would return to my son and I. However we must carry on in the best way we can. Thanking you again for writing me. Trusting you and your son are reunited very soon.
Yours most sincerely,
Agnes E. Stott

The wireless operators [sic] wife & the bomb aimer’s father sent me the same news as you did.
And [?] I can say at this awful [?] time of waiting is God to give you strength to carry on. I know he will not let us suffer unnecessary[sic]. My Baby is my great comfort in this time.

Letter from F Mayer to a Mr Blandford regarding missing aircrew and what little information is available.
48 Cloudesdale Road
Balham
S.W.17.
[written diagonally beneath address] arrived safe [indecipherable] letters or numbers [/deleted]
Dear Mr Blandford.
Thanks for your very welcome letter, yes I to [sic] believe that our loved ones are safe, a strong feeling which I have had for the past few days. I was considerably relieved when I was notified that it was Stuttgart and not Berlin.
I visited the Red Cross a day after the bad news, but as you say it is far to [sic] soon yet, another point to be considered is that they will not give up easily if the crew on a whole, find the least possibility of returning home, without the necessity of being taken prisoners of war, then they will do so. Also in case you didn't know, every eveing [sic] @ approx: 8.30 – 9 pm, a list of airmen Prisoners of War are given out on the German news in English. Athlone on some radios. If I receive a “capture”card I shall definitely send a telegram to you within a few mins [sic] of receiving; hoping you will do the same.
Yours Sincerely
F. Mayer.

27th April, 1944.
Dear Madam,
I am directed to refer to a letter from this Department dated the 30th January, 1944, and to inform you with regret that a further report has now been received from the International Red Cross Committee which unhappily confirms that your husband, Pilot Officer Robert Stott, D.F.M., Royal Air Force, lost his life on the 26th November, 1943, and adds that he was buried three days later in Grave No. 355 in the cemetery at St. Trond, Belgium.
Four other members of the crew are buried in neighbouring graves.
In order that the Department may be in a position to close your husband’s service estate, action to presume his death, for official purposes, will now proceed and you will be informed when this is completed.
In conveying this information, I am to express the deep sympathy of the Department with you in your bereavement.
I am, Madam,
Your obedient servant,
Sgd. E. Cowan.
for Director of Personal Services.
