Observer's and air gunner's flying log book for Alan Edwin Camlin, air gunner, covering the period 12 November 1943 to 12 January 1946 and detailing his training and operations flown. He was stationed at No.7 Air Gunner School RAF Stormy Down, No.11 Operational Training Unit RAF Oakley and RAF Wescott, No.26 Operational Training Unit RAF Wing, 1657 Heavy Conversion Unit RAF Shepherd's Grove, No.3 Lancaster Finishing School RAF Feltwell, Navigation Training Unit RAF Warboys and 7 Squadron (PFF) RAF Oakington. All of his 46 operations, 29 night and 17 day, were flown in Lancasters with 7 Squadron. During one day time operation Alan was wounded. Targets in France, Germany and the Netherlands, were to Boulogne, Calais, Bochum, Bottrop, Bremen, Chemnitz, Cleve, Cologne, Dessau, Dortmund, Duisburg, Dülmen, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanau, Hannover, Jülich, Kamen, Karlsruhe, Kiel, Leipzig, Mainz, Mülheim, Munich, Osnabrück, Nürnberg, Stuttgart, Wanne Eickel, Wilmhelmshaven, Worms and Venlo. He flew one Operation Manna flight and one Operation Exodus flight. His pilot for 45 operations was Flight Lieutenant Rawson and for one was Wing Commander Cox.

W R Homewood’s Navigator’s, Air Bomber’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book covering the period from 2 May 1944 to 12 March 1945, detailing his flying training and operations flown as Air Bomber. He was stationed at SAAF East London (41 Air School), RAF Lossiemouth (20 OTU), RAF Riccall (1658 HCU) and RAF Snaith (51 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Anson, Oxford, Wellington and Halifax. He flew on 26 night operations and nine day operations (total 36) with 51 Squadron. He also flew three Operation Manna flights and one repatriation flight. His pilot on operations was Flying Officer Murray. Targets were Sterkrade, Kleve, Bochum, Duisburg, Wilhelmshaven, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, Julich, Munster, Essen, Osnabruck, Oppau, Hanover, Hanau, Saarbruchen, Dulmen, Magdeburg, Stuttgart, Mainz, Wann Eichel, Nordstern, Reisholz, Worms, Kamen, Hemmingstedt, Hamburg, Dortmund and Wuppertal.

Norman Long's log book as bomb aimer from 26 September 1943 until 21 June 1945. Trained at 48 and 42 Air Schools, 3 AFU, 30 OTU, 1662 HCU, 1 LFS before operational posting to 460 Squadron (RAAF). Served at RAF Hixon, RAF Blyton, RAF Hemswell, RAF Binbrook. Aircraft flown were Anson, Oxford, Wellington, Halifax, Lancaster. Carried out 15 night and 4 day operations with 460 Squadron as bomb aimer to Essen, Nuremberg, Hannover, Hanau-Frankfurt, Merseburg, Dresden, Chemnitz, Dortmund, Duisburg, Pforzheim, Mannheim, Cologne, Misburg-Hannover, Langendreer-Bochum, Kiel, Heligoland. Also carried out two Operation Manna, three Operation Exodus and one Cook’s Tour flights.

This log book covers the training, operational and post war flying career of Geoffrey Gosney from 2 July 1942 to 12 July 1951. It includes a cartoon of the 426 Squadron crest. Geoffrey flew 31 operations in two tours of duty, 23 of which were night operations with 10, 227, 426, 428 and 462 Squadrons. Targets in Egypt, Libya, France, Germany and Greece were Calais, Cap Gris Nez, Dorsten, Frankfurt, Goch, Hanau, Leverkusen, Maleme, Marsa Matruh, Mönchengladbach, Münster, Rheine, Sallum, Soda Bay, Tobruk and Wanne-Eickel. Pilots in operations were Squadron Leader Goldston, Sergeant Wyatt, Flight Officer McGregor, Flying Officer Kagna, Wing Commander Burgess, Flight Lieutenant Garratt, Flight Officer Brodie, Pilot Officer Fuller, Wing Commander Black and Flight Lieutenant Davies. During March, April and May Geoffrey’s duty in the Halifax VII is described in his log book as ‘’screening”. In 1946/47 he was involved in the transport of troops and the dropping of paratroopers and the transportation of freight and troops in the Middle East. Back in the UK he took part in a formation fly past over Banbury. In February 1948 his duties are again described as “screening’ in the Halifax but now with ‘Flying Wing’ at Fairford. Geoffrey remained in the Royal Air Force and served in Palestine. He took part in the Berlin Airlift, transporting coal to Berlin. Transferred to RAF Hemswell with 97 Squadron.

Posted to No. 4 AFU, 11 OTU, 1653 CU, 3 LFS, and 195 Squadron for operations. After the war transferred to Transport Command, 1332 HCU, 246 and 511 Squadrons.

Carried out 28 operations with 195 Squadron to Homberg, Gelsenkirchen, Neuss, Oberhausen, Hamm, Merseburg Oil Plant, Cologne, Vohwinkle, Ludwigshafen, Krefeld, Wanne-Eickel, Munchengladbach, Dortmund, Kamen, Nordstern Oil Plant, Berlin-Potsdam, Heligoland, Bremen, Bad Oldesloe. A partial Royal Australian Air Force Flying log book for F A Mouritz. Covers (with gaps) the period from 27 September 1944 to 18 April 1945. He was stationed at RAF Skellingthorpe with 61 Squadron flying Lancasters. The log book details eight night operations although individual entries are numbered, the highest of which is 34 indicating his total operations for his tour. Targets listed are Kaiserlauten, Mittelland Canal, Royan, Houffalize, Munich, Politz, Nordhausen and Pilsen. His pilot for his first 'second dickie' operation was Flight Lieutenant King.

Description
An account of the resource
Frederick Pick’s Wireless Operator’s Flying Log Book covering the period from 05 September 1943 to 07 April 1945. Detailing his flying training and operations flown as wireless operator. He was stationed at RAF Yatesbury (2 Radio School), RAF Millom (2 OAFU}, RAF Upper Heyford (16 OTU), RAF Syerston (5 LFS), RAF East Kirkby (57 Squadron) and RAF Balderton (227 Squadron) and RAF Strubby (227 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Dominie, Proctor, Anson, Wellington, Stirling and Lancaster. He flew on seven night four day operations with 57 Squadron and 19 night and three day operations with 227 Squadron, to Le Havre, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Boulogne, Bremerhaven, Munchen - Gladbach, Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, Flushing sea dykes, Brunswick, Nuremburg, Walcheren, Harburg, Duren, Ladbergen, Munich, Heilbron, St Vith, Houffalize, Gravenhorst, Politz, Merseberg, Brux, Siegen, Horten, Lutzendorf, Hamburg, Wesel, Dortmund and Molbis. Total 33. His pilot on operations was Flight Lieutenant Robertshawe. On an operation to Munich on the 26 November his main navigation aid caught fire. Having extinguished the fire he used what equipment he had to assist the navigator to bomb successfully and return to base. He was awarded a Green Endorsement on 12 January 1945 by the Group Captain O.C. RAF Balderton.

Flying Log Book for J B McManus, pilot. Covers the period from 22 December 1942 to 29 April 1948 and his training, operations and post-war flying in Australia and Japan. He was based at RAF Clyffe Pypard, RAF Wymeswold, RAF Weston on the Green, RAF Moreton in Marsh, RAF Rufforth, RAF Driffield, RAF Edzell and RAF Hawarden. Aircraft flown were Tiger Moth, Wirraway, Oxford, Wellington, Halifax, Albemarle, Anson, Beaufort, Proctor, Mosquito, Martinet, Master, Lancaster, Lincoln, Avenger, Dominie, Warwick and P-51 Mustang. With 466 Squadron he flew on 33 operations (including one recall); 17 daylight and 16 daylight. Targets were Hamburg, La Pourchinte, Soesterberg, Le Havre, Gelsenkirchen, Kiel, Neuss, Calais, Bottrop, Wilhemshaven, Hannover, Essen, Walcheren, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Bochum, Julich, Munster, Sterkrade, Bingen, Mulheim, St Vith, Opladen, and Koblenz. Observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book for J R Watson, flight engineer, covering the period from 2 November 1943 to 30 March 1945. Detailing his flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Faldingworth, RAF Wickenby, RAF Warboys, RAF Upwood and RAF Husbands Bosworth. Aircraft flown in were Halifax, Lancaster. Oxford and Wellington. He flew a total of 77 operations, 12 with 12 Squadron and 66 with 156 Squadron. Targets were Brunswick, Berlin, Magdeburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Schweinfurt, Augsburg, Essen, Nuremburg, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Karlsruhe, Friedrichshafen, Somain, Montdidier, Nantes, Boulogne, Duisburg, Dortmund, Aachen, Calais, Longues, Foret-de-Cerisy, Fougeres. Lens, Middlestraete, Oisemont-Neuville, Donges, Hamburg, Cassan, Trossy, Abbeville, Caen, Lille, Russelsheim, Kiel, Connantre, Moerdijk, Saarbrucken, Wilhelmshaven, Heinbach, Opladen, Hannover, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Politz, Bohlen, Wesel, Worms, Chemnitz, Hanau, Hildesheim, Harpenerweg and Munster. His pilots on operations were Flight Lieutenant Cleland and Wing Commander Scott.

Forty-two items and two sub-collections containing a total of forty-one items. The collection concerns John Dent (b. 1924, 2206473 Royal Air Force) who flew as a flight engineer on Lancaster of 44 Squadron in late 1944 early 1945. Collection contains documents, his flying log book, course notes, and photographs of people, places and aircraft. Two photograph albums in sub-collections contains images of his wedding as well as aircraft, RAF personnel, and air training corps activities.
The collection has been donated to the IBCC Digital Archive by Geraldene Dent and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

Flying log book for J Dent, flight engineer, covering the period from 25 August 1944 to 8 May 1947. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and post war duties with 44 Squadron, air ministry film unit and 148 Squadron. He was stationed at RAF St Athan, RAF Wigsley, RAF Syerston, RAF Spilsby, RAF Mepal, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Aston Down, RAF Wyton and RAF Upwood. Aircraft flown in were Stirling, Lancaster, Lincoln, Auster, Argus, Lancastrian, Anson, and Oxford. He flew a total of 13 operations, 2 Operation Exodus and 4 Operation Dodge with 44 Squadron. Targets were Homberg, Dusseldorf, Gravenhorst, Harburg, Geissen, Heinbach, Munich, St Vith, Houffalize, Ladbergen, Royan, Juvincourt, Brussels and Bari. his pilots on operations were Flying Officer Smith, Flying Officer Plenterlieth, Flight Lieutenant Webster DFM and Flying Officer Spencer.
